A Short Introduction to Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a natural and highly receptive therapeutic learning state. It is often described as an altered state of consciousness where the subconscious and conscious parts of your mind can work on the same concept at the same time without conflict. It’s a powerful state of inner focus, deep concentration, and increased self-awareness.

Hypnosis allows you to tap into the vast potential of your mind

Think of your conscious mind as the tip of an iceberg; the large majority of the iceberg is submerged, much like your subconscious mind. During hypnosis you are able to dive down and discover the depths of your subconscious which will help you to:

  • Free your mind from self limiting patterns of behaviour.
  • Create new empowering beliefs to help you overcome resistance to positive change.
  • Let go of fear.
  • Tap into the power of your subconscious mind to create a new and positive future.
  • Dump old, outdated beliefs that no longer serve you and open your mind to your potential.
  • Safely and effectively work at the deepest levels of your subconscious mind to create positive re-programming of old outdated beliefs and behaviours.
  • Allow your conscious mind to relax and drift whilst your subconscious mind absorbs beneficial suggestions.
  • Experience deep, healing relaxation.

Hypnosis is a blend of physical relaxation and extreme mental alertness. It’s a completely natural state that you can, and do, enter often. For instance – you are driving along a road that you have driven many times before and suddenly you realise you have reached your destination and have little or no recollection of the journey. You have been driving on ‘automatic pilot’ yet whilst your conscious mind has been happily daydreaming during your journey; your subconscious mind has guided you safely to your destination.

Hypnosis is essentially a focused state of attention - an altered state of awareness, in which suggestions are not only more readily accepted than in the waking state, but are also acted upon much more powerfully than would be possible under normal conditions. It is an effective way of making contact with your inner, or subconscious self, and even though your subconscious can be the unwitting source of many of your problems, it is also the key to your self potential and knowledge.

It has been used in many different forms and by many different cultures for thousands of years and is safe, gentle and very effective. You can’t be hypnotised without your full consent and you can reject any suggestions whilst in hypnosis if they conflict with your moral codes and ethics. Thus hypnosis can be described as a purposeful state of co-operation between you and your therapist.

Advantages of Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is one of the safest, quickest and most effective forms of treatment for the majority of psychological and emotional problems.

Hypnotherapy fosters an attitude of independence and mastery in coping with problems and can also accelerate the healing process in many physiological conditions.

Hypnosis produces a profound level of relaxation and a reduction in stress levels.

Doctors are becoming increasingly supportive of hypnotherapy as an aid to better health. It is a non-invasive therapy, complementary to orthodox medicine - the only side effects are good ones!
